Plymouth County fire departments rely heavily on "mutual aid."  Mutual aid allows towns to request assistance from neighboring communities if the incident so warrants.  Plymouth County Control coordinates all mutual aid activities throughout Plymouth County relying on previously established "mutual aid running cards." Plymouth County Control is located at the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department in Plymouth, MA.  Incidents requiring mutual aid consist of, but are not limited to:  multiple medical calls, structure fires, hazmat mitigation, station coverage assignments and other unusual incidents.

On August 19, 2005 Hanover Fire-Rescue was requested to send what totaled to be two engines to Rockland for a multiple alarm fire at the China Plaza Restaurant on Market Street.  Firefighters found difficult conditions as they battled high heat and humidity.  Hanover Rescue 1 and Engine 4 responded to the request.  Hanover Car 1 also responded to assist Incident Command on scene as multiple units from various towns responded equipment.
