Plymouth County fire departments rely heavily on "mutual aid." Mutual aid allows towns to request assistance from neighboring communities if the incident so warrants. Plymouth County Control coordinates all mutual aid activities throughout Plymouth County relying on previously established "mutual aid running cards." Plymouth County Control is located at the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department in Plymouth, MA. Incidents requiring mutual aid consist of, but are not limited to: multiple medical calls, structure fires, hazmat mitigation, station coverage assignments and other unusual incidents.
On May 30, 2006 Hanover Fire-Rescue was requested to send an engine mutual aid to Hanson, MA for what ended up to be a 3-Alarm building fire at the old Plymouth County Hospital located on High Street. Hanover Rescue 1 and Car 1 responded.
